I entered my first ever competition at the British Stitch and Quilt Village www.quiltandstitchvillage.com quilt show last weekend and won third place - really pleased!
The competition category was 'Lest We Forget' to commemorate 100 years since the beginning of World War One and my Finer Focus piece first made for the Out of the Fold exhibition last year fitted the theme.

Material Girl goes on a Texture Adventure......
Jackie Ives came along to a 2 hour Texture Adventures workshop I ran at the Material Girls group in Bury St Edmunds last week. Jackie selected a Rowan fabric designed by Phillip Jacobs called 'Petunias' as her starting point, added several layers of sheer organzas over the top. But it is Jackie's added hand stitching and beading which has made this a lovely little piece.
Jackie also teaches at The Cosy Cabin at Risby Barns near Bury St Edmunds and you can find details of her workshops on making a Roomy Bag and Beginners Cushion at www.thecosycabin.co.uk

Folded Flying Geese
I love both making and teaching the Folded Flying Geese technique with the easy folded curves which result. Here is just a few examples from the Ickleton Patchwork Group class where we made them into cushions. This workshop is being offered by The Cosy Cabin in Risby near Bury St Edmunds on Saturday 15th March 2014. Telephone 01284 811222 to book a place

Rust obsession
My obsession with rust dyeing continues and I have dyed several very long and thin pieces of recycled calico cotton with some old sofa springs donated by fellow Out of the Folder Jane Rowland which I have left to nicely rust up over the autumn. These are now yielding some very interesting marks and are crying out to be folded and stitched.

Gaudi not gaudy
One of the Gaudi designed stained glass windows in the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona inspired this stained glass wallhanging made using the bias binding applique technique. We did it as a day workshop at the Ickleton Patchwork Group and here are some of the highly colourful results. Look out for this workshop running soon at The Cosy Cabin in Risby near Bury St Edmunds.

In the Pink
I have spent the last 3 days making a quilt to use as a teaching sample. All straight lines but with appearance of curves. Lots of points to match. I am quite pleased with the result. It came out a little pinker than intended though.........
