Big 24 Quilt Show Affiliated Groups display

There are 28 textile groups who are affliliated to region 8 (Suffolk and Essex) of the Quilter's Guild. All were invited to have a free stand at the Big 24 Quilt Show and 17 groups will be exhibiting at the show.

This will be a fantastic celebration of quilting and textile art from the East Anglia region.

I am co-ordinating the affilated groups and will have work on show with two of the affilated groups.

Out of the Fold will have a table display of the fans from the 'Unfolding' exhibition

Spotlight Textiles will have a joint group piece of work with all seven members contibuting a section. This is a piece of brand new work, the first in the exhibition series on 'Spotlight on...architecture' which will be revealed at the Big 24 Show

There is also an opportunity for members of all the affiliated groups to enter quilts into the main part of the show. There is no charge and work of all sizes, styles and techniques are welcome - they just need to have a sleeve and be able to be hung from a traditional quilt stand.

Enter Big 24 Quilt Show   Deadline for entry is 31st Jan 2024 and I encourage everyone to put something into the exhibition. Go on, show off your talents! And to come along to the event from 26th - 28th April 2024 at Blackthorpe Barn near Bury St Edmunds IP30 9HZ

Goodbye to Spotlight Textiles

I have been proud to be a member of the Spotlight Textiles exhibiting group, formed by some of the Advanced Stitched Textiles class of 2020.

The group have had two very successful major exhibitions of new work at the Pond Gallery in Snape Maltings  with 'Spotlight on....East Anglia' in 2022 and 'Spotlight on....Heritage' in 2023. They are now well on their way to producing a third new series 'Spotlight on......architecture' with the first joint group piece being revealed at the Big 24 Quilt Show in April 2024

Now the group is well established it is time for me to leave and concentrate on making work for solo exhibition. I wish all members of Spotlight Textiles all the very best for the future

Textiles East Fair February 2024

textileseastfair is always a  treat to brighten the early part of the year. I will have a stand as usual this year demonstrating the 'Playing with Pojagi' technique and offering a variety of packs for sale.

I will also be exhibiting as part of Out of the Fold as we will be showing the 'Unfolding' exhibition series including our range of fans.

My 'Unfolding' piece shown at The Guildhall exhibition is too large for the Textiles East boards so look out for a brand new piece at St Ives

Out of the Fold will also exhibit a range of framed pieces - some old, some new, as part of the show - again look out for new work from me

Venue: Burgess Hall, St Ives, Cambs PE27 6WU

Dates: Sat 10th and Sun 11th February 2024

Entry: £7

Quilters Guild Virtual Retreat 20th and 21st January 2024

I am delighted to be taking part in the Quilters' Guild Virtual Retreat on the theme of 'Recycle, Repurpose'

The Retreat is open to all members of the Quilters' Guild with a series of talks, demonstrations and social events over the course of the whole weekend.

My talk/demo is called "From Trash to Treasure" looking at ways of transforming throwaway items such as newspaper, teabags, sweet wrappers into pieces of textile art. Plus ways of using old net curtains and worn out bras to create highly textured surface pieces of 3D work

My' To have and to hold' series made using dress pattern tissue will also feature.

One feature of the demonstration of the paper lamination process I use to convert paper into a stitchable fabric.

For more information on how to book for the retreat please visit   https://www.quiltersguildshop.org.uk/products/recycle-repurpose-online-retreat-20-21st-january-2024

The early bird discount of £40 for the whole weekend is still available for the next few days
