CQ Iceni - Symbol

This is the Moon Crowns design found on a coin in Norfolk and believed to be a design from the Iceni tribes.

This elegant shape is the inspiration for my 'Symbol' piece made for the first CQ Iceni Challenge

All members were asked to design and make a small 8" square quilt on the theme 'Symbol'

Mine has a background of Madder dyed natural fabrics - wool, linen, silks, cottons which were embellished and then stitched to an old woolen blanket

The Moon Crowns design is added as a line design by machine cable stitch

We hope to have this series as part of the first CQ Iceni exhibition in 2023

East to East

I am delighted that my 'East to East' piece has been juried into the Norfolk Makers Festival exhibition 'Adjustment'

https://norfolkmakersfestival.co.uk/

I have printed and dyed the fabric from my own original design and used the traditional Korean technique of pojagi..

Pojagi is most often used to make square double sided wrapping cloths for gifts or to protect precious items in Korea.

I have 'adjusted' this technique to make a jacket and brought a touch of the Far East to be exhibitied in East Anglia

This detail shows the dyed and printed fabric using my new favourite fabric of cotton organdie

The exhibition will be shown at The Forum, Millenium Plain, Norwich NR2 1TF
from 9th - 20th March 2022

Free entry

Uncharted

Uncharted (detail) 30cm x 150cm
'Uncharted' was made for the Contemporary Quilt Challenge 2022.  The largest uncharted region of our planet is the ocean. My piece is an impressionistic interpretation of the many depths and hidden flora and fauna that are as yet undiscovered.

Uncharted was not accepted to be included in the Festival of Quilts but will be exhibited at Quiltefest2022 in Llangollen https://www.quiltfest.org.uk/

Llangollen Museum and Art Gallery, Parade, Llongollen LL20 8PW

8th - 16th February 2022 (Tuesdays, Weds, Sat and Sun only)

Uncharted will also be included in the CQ book to be published in August showing all 70 of the quilts

Hidden Treasures

I was asked by the Quilters' Guild to design and make a small piece of work for the national AGM and conference which will be held in Suffolk in April 2022.

This small quilt, inspired by one the treasures of East Anglia, will be used as the coaster design and given to all delegates who attend the conference dinner.

I will also be teaching a workshop to create a similar small panel at the AGM
